Indonesia Offered to Host Youth Olympiad

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia has been offered to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2018, informed sources said. The offer was made by  IOC President Jackques Rogge to the chairwoman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Rita Subowo on the sidelines of a function to welcome participants of the first Olympic Games at the Singapore Presidential Palace on Saturday.

KONI sources said here on Saturday  the offer was directly made by Rogge to Rita Subowo.  Rita  is an active member of the IOC. Both Rita and Rogge were attending the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. A total of 205 National Olympic Committee chairmen and members of the IOC were received by Singapore President S. R. Nathan.

"If you are interested, please submit a proposal we will respond to it. I am convinced your country can  host the event," Rogge was quoted by Rita as saying.         The second Youth Olympic Games in 2014 would be held in the Asian continent, namely Nanjing, China. "I think it would be impossible for the Youth Olympic Games to be held consecutively three times in Asia," she said. Antara

Naked Japanese Woman Found Dead on Bali

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The body of a Japanese woman has been found naked and bound on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, police said Sunday. Hiromi Shimada, 41, had been stabbed repeatedly in the stomach. Her body was discovered in a rented house near the popular tourist beach of Kuta on Saturday evening, provincial police spokesman I Gede Sugianyar told AFP.  “The victim was found with several stab wounds on her stomach. Her legs were tied with cloth and she was naked,” he said. “The motive for the crime is still being investigated,” Sugianyar said. In September, the partially decomposed body of another Japanese tourist, 33-year-old Rika Sano, was found near her scattered belongings in the same area after a suspected kidnapping. An Indonesian man has been arrested and is being investigated for the earlier case, Bali police spokeswoman Sri Harmiti said.

·        Indonesia Maid Jailed for Poisoning Malaysian Boss

KUALA LUMPUR, KOMPAS.com — A court has sentenced an Indonesian maid to six years in jail for trying to kill her employer in Malaysia by poisoning her coffee and soup, a lawyer said Tuesday. Maid Nurhayati Ahmad, 22, pleaded guilty in the court in eastern Pahang state Monday to attempted murder, said her lawyer, Mohamad Fadly Hashim.

He said the maid, from the Indonesian island of Lombok, added herbicide to the drink and food of her female employer, Jaharah Daud, in July last year. She had told him she could no longer stand the scolding after a month of working there, he said. Mohamad Fadly said Jaharah, aged 77, was hospitalized after drinking the poisoned coffee but has recovered. Attempted murder carries a maximum 10 years in prison, or more if hurt is caused.

Some 300,000 Indonesian women work as maids in Malaysia. It is rare for maids to hurt their employers. But maids frequently complain of mistreatment, overwork and unpaid salaries. Also Tuesday, a Malaysian sugar cane seller pleaded not guilty to killing his Indonesian maid, who died after being found beaten and locked in a bathroom.

His trial has been set for Jan. 18. If found guilty of murder, the man faces the death penalty. Maid abuse cases caused Indonesia to stop sending domestic workers to Malaysia in June. Malaysia has since pledged to ensure greater protection for maids

·        Fire on Kuta Square Spreads Panic among Tourists

KUTA, KOMPAS.com - The shopping district of Kuta Square in Kuta, Badung, Bali has been on fire since 07.30 a.m. local time, Thursday. It was temporarily predicted that an electrical shortcut ignited the fire.
"At around 07.30, fire emerged on an outlet of quick silver before it spread over the place," said Ketut Natih, an eyewitness who works at the place. Fire spread over the other outlet next to it.
The fire also spread panic among tourists who are on holiday around the district. They tried to evacuate themselves from the place.
There is no explanation on casualties and cost of loss caused by fire that almost burns up the outlet and has been being put out by fire department officers.

·        Britain's Youngest Sex Change Patient

KOMPAS.com - A 16-year-old boy is set to become Britain's youngest sex change patient after the NHS was said to have agreed to fund his £10,000 operation. Bradley Cooper, a trainee hairdresser who turned 16 on Friday, claimed he is old enough to make the life-changing decision to give him 'peace of mind'.

He has seen a psychologist and is on the waiting list to have an operation through the Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust within 18 months, he said. But campaign groups pushing for more efficient Government spending last night condemned the decision as a waste of taxpayers' money.

The cost cannot be justified while other patients are denied life-saving cancer treatment on the NHS, the TaxPayers' Alliance said. And sex change patients warned that a 16-year-old is too young and impressionable to have the irreversible procedure.

Miranda Ponsonby, a former member of the Household Cavalry who had a sex change from male to female at 56, said: 'The problem in undergoing surgery so young is that the person involved may not have had long enough to come terms with who they are.

Mark Wallance, from the TaxPayers' Alliance, added: 'The NHS must prioritise better to get the most effective results from its resources.
'When there are people dying of cancer who are told the drugs they need are too expensive, it is wrong to be funding less urgent procedures like this. Saving lives should come at the very top of the list.'.

'But this is my life, and it won't be worth living unless I have that operation. The doctors have said I need the surgery for my own peace of mind.
change and immediately put him on a waiting list for an operation.'

Bradley is now waiting to see the Gender Identity Development Service, based at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust in North London.

The youngest Briton to have undergone a sex change until now is Angel Paris-Jordan, formerly Oliver Wheadon, from Wigton in Cumbria. She had the operation just before her 18th birthday in 2002. Last year, German teenager Kim Petras, who was born Tim, became the world's youngest sex-change patient after undergoing the procedure at the age of 16. She is now an aspiring model and pop star.
